There appears to be some misinformation about the upcoming 2020 Census. We reached out to Mr. David J. Radachy, Director of the Lake County Planning and Community Development, and he provided us with the following information.
“Lake County Planning and Community Development assists the U.S. Census Bureau by handling some of the local aspects of the counting process. We do that by reviewing the boundaries of the Lake County Communities and submitting any changes to them (annexations, detachments) through the Boundary and Annexation Survey (BAS).
We also assist by reviewing addresses so that they can create a complete address list that they will use to make sure that the residents in Lake County get counted on Census Day 2020 (April 1, 2020). We also assist in reviewing the Census Blocks, Block Groups and Tracts to ensure that they meet minimum Census Standards for number of households and people. This insures we are able to create good data for Lake County, Ohio.
The last item is that we help by creating the Complete Counts Committee. That is a group that promotes the importance of the Census and asks people to respond to the Census. I am working on creating the committee, but currently the committee has not been formed.
Determining who gets counted and who does not is not something that the County Government or local government is involved in. Upon your request, I can contact my Census liaison and ask who could address your question and send that you information.
