Geauga County’s concerned citizens….

Updated: Saturday, June 2, 2018  / Sunday, June 3, 2018

We had the honor of speaking to concerned and engaged Geauga residents last night about property taxes, public education and, in general, what is happening to our great country.

Here is the link to the video of the presentation:

Here is the Power Point presentation:

Geauga County Discussion

We analyzed the  property tax data received from the Geauga’s Auditor’s office and prepared the following schedules comparing, by political sub-division, the property taxes billed for the 1st half of 2008 versus 2017.  Here are the schedules we created from that information:

Using data from the State of Ohio Cupp Reports we created the following financial information on the Geauga County schools.

From the State of Ohio Board of Education, we created the following schedule reporting the grades achieved by the Geauga schools.

Geauga County Report Card

People are starting to understand that using property taxes as the main funding mechanism for public schools is unsustainable.  We are definitely pricing seniors and those living on fixed incomes out of their homes that they have worked all their lives to achieve.

A concerned couple in the audience told us about 5 of their 18 neighbors in the last five years have had to sell their homes because they could no longer afford the property taxes.

Update: I was asked for the expenditures for students with limited English proficiency and students with disabilities in the Geauga school districts.

Fiscal Year 2017:

Students with limited English proficiency:
Total – 97
Total Expenditures – $1,216,979 (.9% of Total Geauga School districts expenditures)

Students with disabilities:
Total – 1,139
Total Expenditures – $14,494,012  (10.95%  of Total Geauga School districts expenditures)
