Resolution 8……..a very contentious issue

At the last Commissioners’ meeting there was a great deal of audience participation from both sides of the aisle regarding Resolution 8.  It is resolution in support of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), a component of the Department of Homeland Security.

Here is the Resolution: Commissioners’ Resolution 8

Against the Resolution:
Those against the resolution thought it is a terrible idea to force “immigrants”  [NOTE: they incorrectly used the word “immigrants” rather than the correct term “illegal aliens”) to follow the law since they are contributing members of society, and pay taxes.  We are splitting up families and one citizen said that the Catholic Church’s United Conference of Bishops was adamantly opposed to any support of ICE.  The consensus among those “left of center” on the political scale is that ICE should be abolished, and we should welcome everyone into our country. (READ: NO BORDERS)  The Commissioners were also admonished for even bringing up this issue since it is a federal issue and not in the purview of the Commissioners.

For the Resolution:
For any society to function effectively, we must be a nation of laws, and all of those laws must be followed.  Selective enforcement of the laws by individual citizens will ultimately lead to anarchy.  A primary function of all levels of government is to ensure the safety of its citizens.  No Borders = No Sovereignty = No Country – it is that simple.

The Lake County Commissioners have had experience dealing with these types of issues.  Commissioner Dan Troy introduced a resolution many years ago accepting the Mexican Matricular Card as a legal form of identification.  Who knows how that impacted Lake County taxpayers?   We can tell you that there was one Concord resident that lost her life because of an illegal alien.  So the precedence has been established that the Commissioners can get involved in Federal issues.

The Resolution has been tabled until the  August 16th at 10:00 am Commissioners’ meeting.  Commissioners Troy and Hamercheck voted to table the issue, with Commissioner Cirino voting NO to table the issue.

Commissioner Cirino is the one that sponsored the legislation, and spoke very eloquently about why he believes that the legislation is needed.  He views one of his roles as Commissioner is to protect the lives of the citizens and legal residents of Lake County.   We at LFC commend Commissioner Cirino for having the courage to stand up for the citizens of Lake County.  He was doing what was needed and right, regardless of the political fall-out.

The group that was against the resolution requested a community forum where we can be “fair and balanced”, and have civil discourse on this subject.  It was suggested by them that the “impartial” League of Women Voters moderate the forum, and it should be held at the “impartial” Morley Library.

(LFC Comment:  It is our opinion that a community forum would be an absolute waste of time, the divide between the two sides is so profound and deep, there is no compromising with those left of center.  We are living in different worlds. They use Saul Alinsky’s suggestions for dealing with any opposition written in his book “Rules for Radicals”, and it is “their way or the highway”.  We have had dealings with the League of Women Voters and Morley Library in the past, and “impartial” is not a word we associate with those two organizations.  We issue this word of caution to our fellow citizens: This “community forum” has a real chance to be anything but civil.)

So where do we go from here?
Now is the time for all patriots to come to the aid of their county.  We suggest that you call or email all three Commissioners and express your opinions on Resolution 8.

  • If you believe that our country should have no borders, and the entire population in the Southern Hemisphere should be allowed to enter the United States and that the citizens of the United States must take care of the poor and down trodden of the entire world, regardless of cost,  then express that view.
  • If you believe that the United States is a nation of laws, and is a sovereign nation, then tell them to pass Resolution 8.  Tell them that ICE is an integral part of ensuring the safety of all United State’s citizens and legal residents.
  • The last general election told us how the citizens of the United States feel about border security. President Trump won because he believed that a secure border was paramount for our country to survive.  President Trump won Lake County with 54.83% of the vote.  Thanks to Lobbyist John for getting us this summary of election results from the Board of Elections.
