Resolution to Stop the Drug Supply….if you have better ideas let us know

We sent the following email to all Lake County elected officials and a few of the non-profits dealing with drug treatment.  We will continue to send this to any and all Lake County leaders.

To all Community Leaders:

My name is Brian Massie. I represent a group called “Lobbyists for Citizens”.  We are a 501 (c) (4) non-profit organization registered with the State of Ohio focusing on all Lake County issues impacting property taxes.

It is our belief that if we stay on our current path of ever-increasing property taxes, we are going to price seniors and those living on fixed incomes out of their homes that they have worked all their lives to achieve. We are sure all of you know that Lake County’s population is aging, and by 2030 it is estimated that 1/3 of our population will be over 60 years of age.  Many seniors will have to make choices between paying their property taxes, or paying for food and medicine. That is immoral to us!

The illegal drug issue is creating havoc in Lake County, impacting families, citizens, and our property taxes.  The overall costs to Lake County taxpayers to address the impact of illicit drugs into our community is staggering.

As we see it, there are two very different sides to the problem: (1) The Supply Side, and (2) The Treatment Side.

Let’s review how the County government entities are spending taxpayers’ money on addressing the “treatment side” of the problem:

  1. The Sheriff spends taxpayer money and starts the treatment side of the equation by apprehending the drug offenders.
  2. The jail system spends taxpayer money holding the alleged offenders until they have a court date.
  3. The public defender’s office spends taxpayer money defending the alleged offender’s due process rights.
  4. The crime lab spends taxpayers’ money identifying the type of drug that has been confiscated.
  5. The probation office spends taxpayer money trying to change the convicted drug user, or dealer’s behavior.
  6. The jail system spends more taxpayer money for the more serious, convicted offenders that are not granted probation.
  7. The Common Pleas courts have spent a lot of taxpayer money overseeing the entire process.
  8. The ADAMHS Board spends taxpayer money on several of their agencies dealing with drug abuse.
  9. There are various Lake County non-profits that are spending taxpayer money in treating those with drug addiction, while making a lot of profit.
  10. The Job and Family Services department spends taxpayer money in caring for children of drug addicted parents.
  11. The Coroner’s office spends taxpayer money on the autopsy of any citizen that dies from a drug overdose.

The concerted efforts on the “treatment side” of the equation do not seem to be working to any great extent.  All the taxpayer hears is how all of the governmental agencies and non-profits are over whelmed by the number of people impacted by drug abuse, and how our family structure is being decimated.

We have attended recent budget meetings where both the probation department and the prosecutor’s office is requesting additional funding to provide competitive salaries to their overworked staff.  We are told the only solution is to add more money into the mix to increase the size of government, so that we can maybe help some people change their behaviors.

What we have not heard publicly from ANY Lake County elected official, appointed governmental board leaders or members, non-profit executives, political party leaders, religious leaders, public or private school superintendents, or business leaders, is how to address the “supply side” of the equation.  It makes us wonder WHY?  If it is impossible to eliminate 100% of illegal drugs, we certainly owe it to our citizens to severely curtail the supply.

We are writing to you today to seek your support of a resolution that we want passed in Lake County to ensure that the leaders of the community are firmly behind eliminating or reducing the illegal drugs coming into our nation, the State of Ohio, and especially Lake County.

The resolution has three initiatives:

  1. Ensure that all legal measures are taken to prevent pharmaceutical companies and doctors from dispensing and over prescribing addictive pain killing and psychotropic drugs, except for those in chronic pain,
  2. Prevent the trafficking of illegal drugs by building a physical barrier on the Southern border between Mexico and the United States,
  3. Recommend that all Lake County law enforcement agencies support the drug enforcement efforts of all federal agencies including the Drug Enforcement Agency and the Department of Homeland Security.

It would be greatly appreciated if you could reply to this email, and let us know either way if you support, or do not support the three initiatives that we believe will go a long way in solving the “supply side” part of our drug problem in Lake County.

If we do not have the correct answers, what are your ideas or solutions to fix the drug problem in Lake County.  It is past time for our community leaders to step up and be heard.

Thank you,

Brian Massie

Note to all:  You will need to be aware that the email address to Charles.Coulson@lakecountyohio.gov  will give you the following message:

“Your message couldn’t be delivered because you don’t have permission to send to this recipient. Ask the recipient’s email admin to grant you permission and then try again.”

We guess he is very busy prosecuting all the drug cases in Lake County.

There was a hermit crab inside and it pinched her ear. She never wants to go back! LoL I know this is completely off topic but I had to tell someone! 388713
