There is an interesting controversy brewing between Painesville Township and the Riverside School Board. The closing of the Clyde C. Hadden Elementary School has presented a dilemma of what to do with the property.
The Riverside School Board would prefer to sell the property, in addition to the other elementary school to be closed, in order to help offset cost overruns for the new elementary school being built on Route 608 in Concord Township.
The Trustees of Painesville Township would like to have the property split into two parcels of land with the back portion of the property donated to Painesville Township. We have been told that, at least for now, the Riverside School Board is “digging in their heels” and the majority wants to sell the property rather than donate it.
Taxpayers on both sides of this issue should contact the Riverside School Board and express their opinions on this issue. The board members’ email addresses are listed on the Painesville Township flyer.
LFC comes down on the side of selling the property since all of the taxpayers in the Riverside School District paid for the property, and not just those in Painesville Township.
