State Board of Education requested to Endorse National Health Standards
On Tuesday, October 15th, the State Board of Education was asked to consider endorsing SB 121, which would require the adoption of a national health education standard.
According to the Ohio Star, one policy analyst said such an action would completely undermine local control around health education and other sensitive topics such as sex education and sexuality: “This bill eliminates the transparency and oversight and opens the door for the state to adopt national health standards which will only leave locals the opportunity to implement [not decide for themselves] – say goodbye to local control.”
