The DeWine Deception…was his father a mailman?

(LFC Comments:  We see history being repeated with this article from Knox County.  DeWine uses the old “end-run around the citizens” –  right out of Kasich’s playbook.  We are expecting DeWine to eventually say….”She (Dr. Acton) made me do it!”)

The DeWine Deception

Written by Warren Edstrom

Back when John Kasich was elected governor of Ohio he said that he would balance the budget without raising taxes. We all wondered how he was going to do that. Was he going to increase business in Ohio to raise the tax collections? Was he going to trim the state employees to make Ohio Government more efficient? Was he going to cut back on department budgets?

No, he didn’t do any of these.

He stole the money by withholding state revenue from our schools and municipalities.

His actions affected some school systems to such an extent that they had to cut back on sports, libraries and non-essential classes. This caused a rash of local school levies to make up the lost revenue. The school district that I was a board member of eventually had to declare a financial emergency.

The thing that stuck in my craw was that Kasich went around the state bragging about how he erased the 2 billion dollar debt without raising taxes. Taxes weren’t raised by him; but he took taxpayer dollars that had to be replaced by raising taxes at the local level.

Fast forward to 2020. Governor Mike DeWine is going to duplicate the deception foisted on the people of Ohio in the same way as Ex-Governor John Kasich. I always thought that DeWine was Kasich Junior.

The state has a $775 million dollar tax shortfall because of the actions of Mike DeWine. This is not the final count, just the shortfall so far (Early May). History will tell whether these shut downs were really necessary, but I do know that Ohio was the first state to close businesses and shut down schools.

One could say that Ohio led the way in destroying our great economy.  Many other states followed suit with “me too” health edicts.

Now the stunning thing is that Ohio has a $2.7 Billion dollar surplus in a rainy day fund that Mr. DeWine says should not be touched.

If this is not a crisis that requires money to be drawn from this fund I don’t know what is. But the governor is going to repeat this scam of John Kasich’s by taking taxpayer money ear-marked for schools and municipalities so he can say that he has a balanced budget. This will put school districts and municipalities back in the same uncomfortable bind as they were in last time this was done.

And people wonder why WE DON’T TRUST POLITICIANS.
