I attended the scheduled Lakeland Community College Board of Trustees meeting tonight at 5:30 pm in Room 119 of the Holden Center. The only item to be discussed was the renewal of the employment contract of the President, Morris Beverage.

Ms. Amy Sabath, Director of Governmental Relations and Executive Assistant to the President and Interim Director for the Nonprofit and Public Service Center, acknowledged my attendance by saying to me: “Oh, Mr. Massie, nice to see you”. My response was: “Hello, Ms. Sabath”.

After taking a role call for attendance, the Board went into Executive Session to discuss the employment contract. I stopped recording, left the room, and waited patiently next to the reception desk for the Executive Session to end. Ms. Sabath and two others waited in another corridor.

About 7:15 pm I saw everyone, including Ms. Sabath, leaving the room. I quickly went to the gaggle of females speaking in the hallway and was informed that the meeting had concluded.

When I asked why I was not allowed back in the meeting, I was told that someone said that I had left the building.

I told all of them in no uncertain terms that they will not get away with this, and they will all pay a price.

All of the Lakeland Board of Trustees violated the law by excluding the citizens of Lake County from their meeting.

Here is the rogue’s gallery of lawbreakers…..

The main culprit in this sordid affair is Ms. Amy Sabath (R). She knew I was in attendance, and she knew that I was waiting for the Executive Session to end.

We are demanding that Ms. Sabath be immediately released from her role as the Director of Governmental Relations and Executive Assistant to the President and Interim Director for the Nonprofit and Public Service Center.

Unfortunately, we also have Trustees that do not believe in transparency. They will be called out at tomorrow’s Commissioners’ meeting.

I will be sending an email to Mr. Michael Fisher, Lakeland’s legal counsel, demanding a video of what happened in the meeting and a public record of the actual vote count, by Trustee, not renewing the employment contract of Mr. Beverage.

I would be remiss if I did not at least acknowledge one Trustee tried to smooth things over with me, but I was not having any of it. They had violated the law, and broke a trust with the Lake County citizens.

The citizens of Lake County demand transparency from the Lakeland Community College. The citizens give you $19 million each year in property taxes, and we will not be treated like doormats to the elite in Lake County.
