Feuding at the Government Trough

LFC Comments by T. Paine:

Word of advice: never get between a politician a the largesse being handing out by the federal government.

The City of Painesville pleads their case against Townships getting unequal help with the latest government bailout because of Covid. We can tell you that we have heard the expression of “monopoly money” from the elected officials and bureaucrats when they refer to the recent government’s bailouts.

The American Rescue Plan Act of 2021

“The American Rescue Plan Act of 2021, also called the COVID-19 Stimulus Package III, or American Rescue Plan, or ARPA, is a $1.9 trillion economic stimulus bill passed by Congress and signed into law by President Joe Biden on March 11, 2021, to speed up the United States’ recovery from the economic and health effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and the ongoing recession.”

ARPA Provides $350 billion to help states, counties, cities and tribal governments cover increased expenditures, replenish lost revenue and mitigate economic harm from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Here is correspondence from the City of Painesville to the Lake County Mayors and Managers:

Dear Mayors and Managers:

Attached is a letter that the City of Painesville will be sending to our Ohio Representative Dan Troy and Senator Jerry Cirino.  It is not too late to send a letter as the House will be voting on it this afternoon.  The Senate will likely hear it tomorrow.  It seems ironic that Townships are included when they did not lose revenue give they are property tax based.  The City of Painesville’s ARPA funding was reduced by approximately $2 million.

Sincerely,

CITY OF PAINESVILLE
