Ms. Amy Sabath works at the Lakeland Community College as the Director for Government Relations & Executive Assistant to the President. Mr. Morris Beverage. Ms. Sabath is also the Chairperson of the Lake County Visitors Bureau. If you remember, that is the non-profit that receives the Hotel Bed Tax, but does not believe they should be subject to the Ohio Sunshine Laws.
The LCC President’s son, Morris Beverage III is running for the 2 year Lake County Commissioner’s seat currently held by Mr. John Plecnik. Ms. Sabath is also a political consultant, and worked on Senator Jerry Cirino’s campaign for Lake County Commissioner. We are wondering if Ms. Sabath will be working on Morris Beverage III’s campaign for Commissioner?
Here is the “skinny” on the race for Commissioner:
There are two Commissioner’s seats available in 2022:
- Ron Young’s 4 year seat
- John Plecnick’s 2 year seat
We have been told that originally John Plecnik and Willowick Mayor Rich Regovich would square off in the Republican primary for Ron Young’s seat. Morris Beverage III would get the free pass and would not be opposed in the Republican primary for Plecnik’s two year seat. The Party favors newcomer Beverage for some reason.
However, something happened at the last minute. Either polling showed that Plecnik was unbeatable by either Beverage or Regovich, or party leaders decided to throw Regovich under the bus; and wish him well against the mega bucks of the Beverage campaign, and give Plecnik a free pass in the primaries. Regovich has been a successful Mayor of Willowick, but in politics money usually trumps name recognition. At least Regovich attends some of the Commissioners’ meeting.
So how does the Mentor Director of Economic Development, Kevin Malecek, a “staunch” Democrat we are told, figure in the scheme of things? Well, below is a picture of the Republican, Amy Sabath, yucking it up with Malecek at a recent event. She seems to be saying….”Welcome to the Party, pal!”
It is rumored that Malecek will be running for the Commissioner’s seat, a position he once held, in two years with the backing of his “new found” Republicans friends.
