Darkness Envelopes Mentor School District

By Concerned Mentor Parents

The Mentor School Board meeting was a marathon last night, just a smidge over 4 hours. Three takeaways from the night?

  1. If Mentor schools put a levy on the ballot either in spring or fall of 2025 and it passes (as if) they will not begin receiving the money until 2026. It will be tight, but they can make it work. However, if the levy doesn’t go on until 2026 or later, they will be very close to financial disaster.
  2. The Ohio Senate bill 104, aka the Bathroom Bill has passed both Congressional houses and is sitting on Governor DeWine’s desk. He WILL approve it and it will become Ohio law 90 days later.

Ohio state Senator Jerry Cirino (R-Kirtland) is the sponsor of Senate Bill 104, requiring that public K-12 schools and institutions of higher education to designate separate bathrooms, locker rooms and overnight accommodations “for the exclusive use” of either males and females, based on one’s gender assigned at or near birth, in both school buildings and facilities used for a school-sponsored event. Three of the five board members apparently do NOT care. They voted 3-2 NOT to address this law with a corresponding school policy. No rush they said. Let’s see what happens they said. Rose Ioppolo and Annie Payne vehemently disagreed. They argued that if the law is broken and a lawsuit against the schools is made, lack of policy puts the schools in a dangerous position. They were ignored.
  3. Also on the docket is a bill called Release Time for Religious Instruction (RTRI) which states:
     (C) A policy adopted under division (B) of this section may authorize high school students to earn up to two units of high school credit for the completion of a released time course in religious instruction. In determining whether to award credit for completion of such a course, the board shall evaluate the course based on purely secular criteria that are substantially the same criteria used to evaluate similar nonpublic high school courses for purposes of determining whether to award credit for such courses to a student transferring from a nonpublic high school to a public high school. However, there shall be no criteria requiring that released time courses be completed only at a nonpublic school. The decision to award credit for a released time course of religious instruction shall be neutral to, and shall not involve any test for, religious content or denominational affiliation.

Apparently, there is policy for this, but it was removed without warning. The board has agreed to meet to take another look at it now that ALL board members are aware it is available. Hmmm..why was it “hidden”?
  4. The link to the video of the meeting can be found below. Public comments can be seen at the 6 minute mark and the 4 hour mark.

Discussion of the Bathroom Bill is at 1:50:00 Marchaza shows her true colors beginning at 3:40:00. Also, please be sure to listen to community member Tina Purkins at the 4 hour 9 minute mark. “And the ones who are not, wear crosses around their neck”. She was chastising Annie and Rose and those who support them for being bullies while she bullied all Christians.

5. Lastly, a parent of a Mentor student brought this to our attention. This is a sign at Memorial Middle School. “Pride Club” is of course, an LGBTQ club where an adult male teacher leads the discussion at each meeting. No parental permission needed.

Based on this video an many other Mentor School Board meetings, we do not believe the Mentor School District can be saved. There is a spiritual war going on in this school district and darkness has taken over.

We will continue to “shine the light” on this darkness.

Governor DeWine just signed the Protect All Student’s Act:

On Tuesday (11/26/24), the Protect All Student’s Act, included in Senate Bill 104, sponsored by State Representatives Adam Bird (R-New Richmond) and Beth Lear (R- Galena) was signed into law by Governor Mike DeWine.

“We are thankful that individuals will not have to worry about members of the opposite sex coming into restrooms, locker rooms, and changing rooms in Ohio,” said Bird. “Thank you, Governor DeWine, for signing this important legislation and keeping students safe.”

Let’s see how the three leftists on the Mentor School Board react to this law.

The conduct of Ms. Purkins with her personal, ad hominem attacks on Board Members, Annie Payne and Rose Ioppolo, personifies bullying, and should not be condoned by the other Board Members and administration.
