Talking points on School Vouchers and please Vote NO on Issue 69.

Do not play their game.  The Cleveland Heights – University Heights School district (or any school district for that matter) does not lose any money to Ed Choice Vouchers.  What they receive is LESS State money, but they do not lose any money! And what they receive is always very generous!

The State has a pie, the slice that the CH-UH School district receives will be smaller if more students choose Ed Choice Vouchers.  CH-UH does not lose money (as they repeatedly claim, no school system loses money) they receive LESS GRANT money.  Its all gratuitous from the State of Ohio.  It is a gift.  If you receive a smaller gift of money this year from the previous year, you can’t say we LOST money, because it is still a gift. And the gift amount varies from year to year based on a formula.

Please keep the voucher talking points simple.  Because they really are.  CH-UH receives State money based on a complicated formula (That we don’t need to talk about because it will only confuse voters) But this formula (which the School Union likes to cause confusion with) is the same formula for all school districts in Ohio. 

Basically, as more students choose vouchers the gift money to the public school is decreased.  Which also begs the question why is Scott Gainer (CFO  of Cleveland Heights-University Heights Schools) basing his budget on the absolute best case scenario for State money when he knows this gift amount varies from year to year. And currently is declining because more parents are choosing vouchers.

Also:  The recent CH-UH Reaching Heights School Article claims the loss is being covered 100% by Local Property Taxes.  Local Property taxes have nothing to do with Vouchers.  (Vouchers are gift money from the State)  But what the article is claiming is that since the State took money away from them; (which it didn’t they are just receiving less),  therefore our local property taxes must be used to compensate for this! 

Wow!  That is pure arrogance on the part of the Teacher’s Union.  Local property taxes to compensate not only for the smaller state gift, but for increased spending the school incurs every year.  Which is why they need another levy!  Which is why these levies will become endless until we stop them!

And finally:  Remember the parents who use these State Vouchers still GIVE their property tax money to the CH-UH School system.  Something else never mentioned.  Vote NO on Issue 69.  You would be crazy not to.
