Lake County Recorder Lynch Announces No Fee Increase

Painesville, OH – October 25, 2024 – Lake County Recorder Becky Lynch announced today that, despite the recent passage of Senate Bill 94, Lake County will not increase the recording fees with a preservation surcharge at this time. The new law mandates counties digitize their records from 1980, make them accessible online, and allows that each county recorder may charge a preservation surcharge of up to $5.00 per document in addition to other changes. The new law’s effective date is October 24th, 2024.

Recorder Becky Lynch emphasized that Lake County will comply with the requirements of the new law taking into consideration guidance from the Ohio Recorder Association and the outcome of budget allocations for 2025. “We are committed to providing our residents with efficient and accessible public records services without imposing a preservation surcharge in 2024,” Lynch said. “We believe that we can achieve this goal without burdening our constituents with additional fees at this time.”

Lake County Recorder records are digitized each day and historic records have been scanned and indexed to 1986. All Ohio counties are required to reach the new
digitization level.
