Now that people are starting to wake up to the pending crisis surrounding the ever-increasing property taxes, they are asking what can be done.
We continue to educate citizens on the property taxes, but the whole system of taxation in Ohio is so complex only a few State legislators really understand the details of the system.
There is a man in Lake County, just re-elected by the people, that can make a difference in the lives of his constituents by supporting a major effort to reform property taxes NOW.
His name is Senator Jerry Cirino.

State Senator Jerry Cirino
Kirtland resident, and just re-elected
Vice-Chairman of the Senate Finance Committee
He holds a powerful chair in the Senate Finance Committee, and can fix the problem for Seniors, once and for all.

From Senator Cirino’s re-election website here is what he says he will do to protect Seniors in his district.
Protecting the Interests of Seniors
“As a senior himself, Jerry understands the needs of our growing number of seniors in Ohio. Providing budget dollars to local government and Jobs and Family Services used to protect seniors and provide needed support services have always been priorities for Jerry. Making sure that Seniors are protected from scams and that their fixed incomes are not challenged by unfair taxes will continue to be Jerry’s focus in the future.”
Senator Cirino: Save Our Seniors
The following is a suggested letter our readers can send to Senator Cirino’s Senate office and/or his home address in Kirtland.
Subject: Ohio Property Taxes
Dear Senator Cirino:
The ever-increasing property taxes have created an untenable situation for most Ohio residents. This is a severe problem compounded by the recent inflationary gains in our property values.
This issue crosses all political lines, and economic status. The current system of property taxes is overly complex, taxing the residential homeowners and commercial property owners on unrealized gains, and is not sustainable.
We are requesting that the Ohio legislature make a serious attempt NOW to simplify the taxation system. Simply increasing the homestead exemption, or any other marginal attempt to solve the problem will not be acceptable. We suggest elimination of the taxation of unrealized gains and ensuring that those over 65 years of age are not taxed out of their homes that they have worked all their lives to achieve. For immediate relief, we request a rollback of the recent sexennial revaluation increases.
ANY TAX THAT CAUSES A CITIZEN TO BECOME HOMELESS IS IMMORAL!
Respectfully submitted,
