Here is the information that we obtained from the Lake County Commissioner’s office, regarding the renewal with an increase levy that will be on the ballot on November 7th.
The current levy is .5 mills and collects $2.8 million from the taxpayers. The new levy will be for .8 mills. The additional .3 mills will generate $1.6 million, and will cost the taxpayer $10.50 per $100,000 of market value of their home. (Try not to get confused between market value and assessed value – see our report on how to calculate your real estate taxes on this website. I would like officials to say that it will cost “x” number of dollars per year per $100,000 of market value to eliminate confusion.) The $1.6 million new funds represents a 57.14% increase over the $2.8 million currently being collected. ($1.6 / $2.8)
Here is a schedule of the annual payments made to various city and agencies.
Senior Levy Distributions 2013 – 2017 sorted
Please take note if your community is getting their fair share of the redistribution of the wealth.
A link below is given for the final report commissioned in 2015 by the Lake County Commissioners. “It was charged with identifying the gaps and needs for senior services in Lake County, and provide detailed information regarding the current senior population in Lake County, as well as the anticipated growth in the Country. It is estimated Lake County will experience a 10% increase (between 2010 – 2030) in the 60+ population and nearly a 55% increase in 85+ population for the same period. The request for additional levy funds is to help support the continued growth in the senior population, as well as address the unmet needs in the County.” (Source: Commissioners’ office)
“It is also anticipated that revenue will be allocated to help support the expansion of adult protective services and establish an adult guardianship program in the County. Additionally, levy funds would be used to support programs that keep seniors living in their home, such as unskilled home care services, transportation services, home modifications, meals, etc.”
Here is the 100+ page report that provides details and was used to support putting the levy on the ballot.
Lake County Report – FINAL 10-16-2015
Since I do not see where Concord Township is getting any direct payments from the current senior levy, I am trying to meet with the Executive Director of the Council on Aging to see exactly how many Concord residents benefit from any of their programs. I will post when i get to speak to the Executive Director.
