Golf Courses….can they be self-sustaining?

Our friends in Geauga County mentioned that their Parks Division is going to buy a golf course for $1.8 million.  We thought that we would help them out by providing information that we gathered from the Lake County Metroparks 2019 Budget Request,

Here are details about their Golf Division revenue projections for 2019:                    Metroparks Golf Course Revenue

Here are details about their Golf Division expense projections for 2019:

Here are details on the number of rounds played from 2014 – 2018:
Metroparks Golf Rounds

Lets recap some totals:                       2018                2019

Total Revenue                                $1,259,100        $1,239,300
Total Expenditures                        $1,445,250        $1,574,264
Loss on Operations                     ( $   186,150)      ($   334,964)

Number of Rounds played            49,061 down 8.9% in 2018

The last sentence under the Golf Division page says it all:
“In, 2019, we will continue to find new and creative ways to attract a greater segment of the SHRINKING  golf community to our courses.

Bureaucrats love to spend other peoples money.  I will wager that not many of the Amish will be using the new golf course.  Good luck to our new friends in Geauga County.
