The Mentor School District has a 2.5 Mill Levy on the November ballot. Lake County Moms for Liberty are recommending that citizens in the Mentor School District vote NO on the 2.5 mil property tax levy for property improvements.

It is important that taxpayers understand what the Housing Affordability Threshold is all about. It is a measurement to determine whether or not your house is unaffordable for you.
To calculate the HAT %: Add your annual property taxes, mortgage payments, and annual utilities. Divide that number by your annual household income. If the number equals 30%, then the house is deemed unaffordable for you. You do not have to move, but you will have less money for your needs and wants.
Here is an example of the property tax calculations:
Additional annual property tax for $100,000 home valuation is $87.50 [2.5 mils x $35.00 = $87.50]
Additional annual property tax for an average home of $284,000 is $248.50.
[$87.50 x ($284,000 /$100,000) = $248.50]
If your HAT % is 25%, and you have an average Mentor home valued at $284,000, you will need to earn an additional $994.00 annually to avoid moving closer to the 30% Housing Affordability Threshold. [$248.50 / .25 = $994.00]
When the Mentor School District asks for a 5 mil levy the numbers will double.
Per $100,000 home valuation: 5.0 x $35.00 = $175.00 additional tax per year.
Average home valued at $284,000: (5.0 x $35.00) x 2.84 = $497.00 per year.
Annual income need if HAT is 25%: $497.00 / .25 = $1,988.00 per year.
This is why we continual mention that if we stay on the path of ever increasing property taxes, we will price seniors and those living on fixed incomes out of their homes that they have worked all their lives to achieve.
