Threat Deemed Not Credible…At Riverside School District

By Brian Massie, A Watchman on the Wall

The following email was sent to all Riverside parents. It is very disturbing that we have evil people in our society that we even develop a plan to create fear in our school district.

Threat Deemed Not Credible

Dear Riverside Families,

Earlier this evening, several of our administrators across the District received a threatening email from an individual claiming to be from a foreign terrorist group. It has been brought to our attention that this same email has been sent to administrators from school districts all over the state of Ohio.

We have no reason to believe that these threats are credible, however we are working with the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, who have contacted the FBI and Department of Homeland Security, to investigate the matter further. All buildings will remain open tomorrow and as usual, we will have our School Resource Officers and School Safety Officers present at each building. We will also have a Lake County Sheriff’s Deputy at Hale Road Preschool for morning drop-off and pick-up.

The safety of our students and staff is always our top priority. The Riverside Local School District is committed to maintaining a safe and welcoming environment where students can learn and feel comfortable.

Thank you!

LFC Comment: The same threat was issued to the Mentor School DistrictL

Mentor Schools staff and families,

We are writing to inform you that Mentor High School was one of many schools today to receive an emailed threat of violence from someone claiming to be from a foreign terrorist organization. We immediately contacted Mentor Police for assistance. They’ve informed us that Ohio Homeland Security and the FBI are also investigating this email and have found no credible threat.

As an extra precaution, Mentor Police Department plans to have an increased officer presence at our schools tomorrow as we will be in session per usual. We are sharing this not to alarm you, rather to inform you as many districts in our area are experiencing the same situation.

We treat every report we receive about the safety of our students, staff and schools very seriously, and we investigate thoroughly. I can assure you we will continue to be vigilant about school safety as a top priority. Thank you for your continued support.

Sincerely,

Craig Heath

Superintendent
