Painesville Twp., OH: Family Pride of Northeast Ohio along with the Lake County Alcohol, Drug Addiction and Mental Health Services (ADAMHS) Board united together to originate the inaugural Senior Ice Cream Social Event on June 14th. This was Family Pride’s first-ever ice cream social which was hosted at the iconic Lake Metroparks Painesville Twp. Park’s Community Center/Dance Hall.

Family Pride is a community-based behavioral health organization, providing an in-home and community service model which takes away an older adult’s mobility and/or transportation barrier. This event breaks the in-home model and spurs socialization, fun and the utilization of public transit. Angi Daugherty, Executive Director of Family Pride affirmed, “Family Pride’s Senior Support Services goal is to help seniors feel more confident, comfortable, get out of isolation, be healthy and social, and live their best lives.  All of these goals were core parts of our Ice Cream Social event.”

At the event families and clients participated in group board games, puzzles, cards games, the enjoyment of ice cream, music by Tom Evanchuck and of course dancing. Family Pride stated there were about 60 attendees at the event but they look to expand next year. “We envision this event growing each year as we invite more seniors and other community members and really make this a summer celebration. We were happy to partner with the Lake ADAMHS Board to get things started for 2024,” declared Daugherty.

The Lake ADAMHS Board funds Family Pride’s senior-oriented programs focusing on needed mental health services for seniors. Family Pride supports Lake County residents ages 60 and above on reducing the many barriers to the health and emotional well-being through case management and therapy services.  Challenges may be safety, basic needs, healthcare access, as well as natural and community supports systems like family, friends, and local organizations.  It is Family Pride’s goal to collaboratively work with the client, to develop a treatment plan that builds upon their strengths, accesses community and natural resources, and addresses daily coping skills to improve their overall emotional and inevitably, physical well-being.
