AND THE WINNER IS…Dennis L. Keeney

Lake County Probate Court Judge Mark Bartolotta selects Dennis L. Keeney to fill the vacant position on the Riverside School District Board.

Scott Fishel, Denise Brewster, Lori Krenisky, Jennifer Harden, Belinda Grassi

A seat on the Lake County Riverside School Board became available when Jennifer Harden decided to resign her long held position. This created quite a controversy when the four remaining Board members could not agree on a replacement. A long list of candidates was reduced to four, and Judge Bartolotta, as required by law, had to step in and decide.

The Judge, in our opinion, made the right decision when he selected Keeney. This selection will swing the balance of power on the Board. The left-leaning duo of Belinda Grassi and Lori Krenisky can now be relegated to placeholders and will no longer dictate the direction of the school district. Ms. Grassi’s statement of “it doesn’t matter what Fishel wants, we have the majority” is no longer accurate.

Perhaps the new Board will allow overburdened taxpayers extra time to air their views during the public comments section, unlike current Board President, Lori Krenisky. This current Grassi/Krenisky Board is totally oblivious to the needs, wants and desires of many of the taxpayers in the district. During the Board meetings there is no interaction allowed between the public and the Board, and they give the distinct impression that they do not care about the taxpayers who have no children in the district.

The financial interests of the taxpayers are never considered by the Grassi/Krenisky lead Board. Repairing and maintaining the school buildings is not a priority to the Grassi/Krenisky duo, while building new, regardless of cost, is all that matters.

We will be watching and reporting on the decisions and actions of the new majority on the Board.
