Commissioner Plecnik Takes Aim At His Critics

By Brian Massie, A Watchman on the Wall

The Lake County Commissioners’ meeting held on August 15th provided some opportunities to inform and educate the citizens of the County.

Our first video is Commissioner John Plecnik addressing his critics (Yours truly, and a couple others) about the $748,000 spent since Commissioner Plecnik took office on newsletters and refrigerator magnets. The Commissioners have spent an average of $250,000 per year. Commissioner Hamercheck cautions the other two Commissioners that the financing of the new jail will require severe “belt-tightening”.

The second video features Commissioner Plecnik again reinforcing his statement that the new Public Safety Center (heretofore known as a jail) will not require any new taxes to be levied on the overtaxed citizens of Lake County.

We disagree with Commissioner Plecnik on his statement that there will not be any new taxes imposed on the taxpayers. In our opinion, he is not completely correct with his statement. The sexennial revaluation that will occur in 2024 will see an approximate increase in property taxes of $1.8 million annually to the County general fund in 2025 without a vote of the taxpayers.

In Commissioner Plecnik’s “conservative” world the $1.8 million is not a new tax. It is only an additional tax mandated by the Ohio Revised Code.

Somehow an additional mandated tax is not a new tax….

HMMMMMM….
