Get ready folks…the latest colossal waste of taxpayer funds (OVER HALF A MILLION BUCKS) for THE elite entitled Lake County Probate Judge Mark Bartolotta is out for bid. Below is the Request for Bid to erect a 2-car parking garage for Probate Judge Mark Bartolotta…security you know. Yet we see Judge Bartolotta walking to Arby’s in Painesville to grab a bagged lunch and elsewhere without a security detail. Hmmmm…
Anyhoo…the real kicker is that Judge Bartolotta ALREADY HAS SECURE PARKING with the General Division judges. He exits his vehicle in a secure environment like the other judges, walks into the Courthouse, and then he can walk in complete security from the Courthouse to the Court Annex where his office is located (there is a tunnel between the two buildings), away from the elements and stranger danger. What’s wrong Judge Bartolotta…too far for you to walk? Even if the Board of Cowards….er I mean Commissioners were to tell Judge Bartolotta “NO” and save
us all half a million bucks…the judge would just journalize it…in the interest of justice and all.
Since the Judge can just force the taxpayer to fund this ridiculous waste of money, H.B. has come up with a cheaper solution. I propose that if it is just too darned far for the judge to walk (since the People already provide SAFE AND SECURE parking for you with the other judges), then perhaps Judge Bartolotta can RIDE THE MAGIC on his new Pink Unicorn Mobility Scooter! Cue the Price is Right theme…can you just hear Bob Barker describing this thing to the panel of bidders?
The Pink Unicorn Mobility Scooter is MUCH cheaper than a parking garage, and the near zero turn radius is perfect for navigating the corners in the tunnel. What do you guys think?

Bids were due yesterday, April 9. Bids now must go to be reviewed by the Design and Engineering Firm, Burgess and Niple, to make sure the bids get to the Apples-to-Apples point, i.e. we are comparing Apples-to-Apples rather than Apples-to-Oranges.
By the way, the Design and Engineering firm fees are in ADDITION to the construction costs for the 2-car, heated and air-conditioned parking garage. Lowest bid was $515,000. I guess we will see what the Apples-to-Apples comparison produces. This is an outrageous WASTE of taxpayer funds, and the Commissioners should tell Judge Bartolotta NO! Force him to Court Order the People to pay for this monstrosity when the People already provide secure parking for the judge. Any Commissioner who votes yes on this thing should be primaried because they do NOT work for the People.
The Commissioners, specifically Commissioner Plecnik, tells us that they are going to build the new Justice Center without raising taxes. The $306M from the Opioid Settlement they were counting on over the next 15 years has vaporized…POOF…not going to happen now. And they want to spend OVER HALF A MILLION DOLLARS on this stupid parking garage for an entitled judge? I’m not feeling too warm and fuzzy about their “promise” on that given their folly on the proposed 2-car parking garage for a judge that just feels like he should not have to walk further than any of the other judges.
