The Day Will Be Both Great and Terrible

The Day Will Be Both Great and Terrible

By Rob Pue / April 13, 2025

There are many things, in our world today, that point to the imminent return of our Lord, Jesus Christ.  Timothy tells us, “…This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, without natural affection, truce-breakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, traitors, heady, high-minded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof…”

Sure sounds like our world today, doesn’t it?  Every day, we see examples of every single one of those things Timothy lists.  The nations of the world are in peril.  People are self-centered and self-indulgent and boast of their own accomplishments.  Many jealously desire what others have.  We’ve even come to a place now where “pride” is celebrated worldwide.  And not just any “pride,” but pride in absolute sexual depravity.

Blasphemy is everywhere, as we tear down monuments of the Ten Commandments and in their place, we put statues of the demon Baphomet.  Even so-called “Christian” churches now ordain sodomites as “pastors” and celebrate the sin of homosex and the mental illness of “transgenderism” because even those who claim to be “Christian” leaders are now without natural affection.  These are “pretend churches,” having a form of Godliness, but denying the power thereof, and even denying the very commandments and covenant of the God they claim to serve.

Children today, raised with an entitlement mentality and immersed in the virtual world of technology and social media now have no relationship with — and no respect for — their own parents.  And though we have been immensely blessed by God here in this nation, we remain unthankful, unholy and violent.  We love the abundant comfort and ease and seek it fervently, when we should be honoring, reverencing and serving the Lord God.

Despisers of good?  Yes, we have that as well.  Good is now called “evil” and evil is called “good.”  As for truce-breakers, I now know that you really can’t trust anyone or anything anymore.  A man’s word is no longer worth a plug nickel.  Then there are the traitors, the false accusers and the heady, high-minded — many of which can be found in the highest of political offices, making laws and decrees that we must obey, though they never will.

In Matthew 24, Jesus said this: “And ye shall hear of wars and rumors of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in diverse places. All these are the beginning of sorrows. Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for My name’s sake. And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another.”

Today, our world is replete with wars and rumors of wars.  Nations are rising against nations.  We have famines.  Even here in America, we’ve seen hundreds of food processing plants destroyed by mysterious fires, we’ve had millions of chickens and turkeys destroyed because of a supposedly “deadly bird flu,” we’re told.  Strange how we’re not seeing flocks of wild birds dropping dead all around us.  This “flu” only seems to affect the birds we depend on for meat and eggs.

We also have many “pestilences” — many of them man-made, cooked up in labs and turned loose on the populace to instill fear and obedience to the almighty world government.  Not to mention the deliberate poisoning of our air, water and soil through the use of “geoengineering” or “chemtrails,” and the wicked science experiments where we, the people, are the guinea pigs as mosquitoes are bred to carry the mRNA injections, then set loose to infect us all.  If you think I’m a crazy conspiracy theorist, go ahead and think that.  But understand, I’ve warned you of many things that were labeled “false news” and “conspiracy theories” at the time, and have since been proven to be true.

We’ve also seen a marked increase in earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, fires and hurricanes in diverse places — places where they should not be happening.  The beginning of sorrows.  And once again, the words of Christ are absolutely true when we now have true Christ-followers being persecuted, imprisoned, killed and hated of all men.  Lukewarm church-goers can rest easy, assured that the enemy will not bother with them, since they’re already unknowingly doing Satan’s work.  But if you’re a true Christ-follower, understand that the very fact that you exist will offend many, and you’ll be betrayed by those you thought were your brothers and sisters in Christ.  They will hate you.

I’ve experienced this hatred from professing “Christians” personally.  So I know a little of what I’m talking about.

It seems like Bible prophecy is playing out right before our very eyes as we read the daily headlines and try to put the puzzle pieces together and make sense of it all.  It would seem that the “end times” and the “last days” are here, and our Lord could return at any moment.

But you need to understand, all the things I’ve mentioned here, and quoted from Scripture have been going on since man’s fall in the Garden.  Jesus’ own disciples expected Him to return at any moment too, from the time He ascended into heaven.  But understand that Jesus also said, “take heed that no man deceive you.” He warned against many false prophets and many false christs, that would lure many away with their lies and deceptions.  There have been many false prophets in my own lifetime.  Many have set dates, and backed those dates up with Scriptures, twisted to fit their own false prophecies…and many followed those false teachers, some of them to their own deaths.

One could certainly make a case that could deceive even the “elect,” that the Lord’s return is now at hand.  But Jesus Himself also warned us, “But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.”

I don’t know about you, but I find it sad and disturbing that so many professing Christians today seem so eagerfor World War 3, the end of the world, Armageddon, the apocalypse.  They’re chomping at the bit.  They just can’t hardly seem to wait for bloodshed and that “great and terrible Day of the Lord.”

Being in the news media, I have a 24/7 news stream. It never stops.  Many of my sources are from Christian organizations.  And every day, I see the headlines from these so-called “news” outlets.  They seem to be hungering, thirsting and craving for death, destruction and total annihilation.  And those who feed off these stories are just as eager for mayhem as those who put the stories out.  They crave destruction.

Let me give you a few examples of some of the headlines I’ve seen recently: “Breaking: Worldwide Disclosure Happening Now!”  “2025: Proof We’re in the End Times!”  “Alert: America Preparing for Major War!”  “It Has Begun…They Don’t Want This Seen!”  “Apocalyptic Weather Event Across the US.”  “Global Economic Collapse Happening Now.”  “Mysterious Event Worldwide in 2025.”  “The End Times Are Here — Shocking Video.”  And one more: “Something Biblical Coming April 2025!”

As if “something Biblical” has not been going on since the creation.  I find it ironic and sad that whenever there’s a major disaster or world event, the press calls it “Biblical.” Or, “of Biblical proportions.”  Then, God’s Word the Bible somehow suddenly takes on urgency and significance.  But the rest of the time, the media mocks and ridicules the things of God, and our public schools relegate the Bible to the category of mythology, superstition and fiction.

Of course, as Christians, we look forward to our Lord’s return, when He will restore righteousness to the earth, judge the wicked and bring justice.  But Christians, stop salivating at the thought of that “great and terrible Day of the Lord.”  Stop looking forward to it so eagerly.    Because it will be both great and terrible.  You may feel confident, and perhaps rightly so, that you’ll simply be welcomed into the loving arms of Jesus.  If you know Him, confess Him, have been washed, renewed and sanctified by Him in this life, been baptized in His name and, importantly, have invested your life in serving Him and following the Father’s commandments, it truly will be a great day for you.

But Revelation 20:12 tells us this: “And I saw the dead, the great and the small, standing before the throne, and books were opened; and another book was opened, which is the book of life; and the dead were judged from the things which were written in the books, according to their deeds.”

This should give us all a great sense of urgency to get our lives right with God, in alignment with His will.  We should search our hearts to see if we’re truly putting Him first; and our lives to see if we’re really, truly occupying until He returns.  If we are not about our Father’s business daily, we’re no better than the one who buried his “talents” and was called a “wicked servant.”

We are not saved by our works, but when those “books” are opened, they’ll present all the evidence before the Almighty righteous Judge, of everything we did and every word we spoke in this life.  Our lives here in this world are a “proving ground,” and all will see the evidence of our lives on this earth — all the things we did, either good or evil, and then judgment will be pronounced.

In Matthew 7, we read the words of our Lord: “Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down and cast into the fire. Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them. Not everyone that saith unto Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Thy name? And in Thy name have cast out devils? And in Thy name done many wonderful works?’ And then will I profess unto them, ‘I never knew you: depart from Me, ye that work iniquity.’”

This is serious stuff, folks.  I urge you to examine your lives, and if you are not serving the King of kings, if you’re not occupying ‘til He returns, if you’re simply going to church and then going home again, you better start taking your professed faith more seriously.  The Lord is not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

Following repentance comes a lifetime of sanctification.  And understand that you were saved to serve.  To minister.  To witness. You need to be more eager to lay down your life for the sake of Christ, if that should be required of you, than you are to simply spend your time on earth in comfort, luxury and ease while you await your heavenly “reward.”  Because you may not get the “reward” you’re expecting.  If you’re ashamed of your Savior in the presence of men, He will be ashamed of you in the presence of His Father.

Revelation 21:8, “But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.”

Notice something about this verse of Scripture.  The cowardly are just as wicked for being cowardly — too fearful and ashamed to openly serve Christ — as are unbelievers, murderers and the sexually immoral.  In fact, it’s the cowardly who go first into the lake of fire!

Take heed, and remember John 9:4 when Jesus said, “I must work the works of Him that sent Me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work.” And remember this from Ephesians 5, “See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil.”  They always have been. So, stop looking for the rapture under every rock and behind every tree.  Dedicate your time in this life to serving and obeying the commands of Christ, unashamedly and courageously.  Be about His work, so that when that day comes, you can enter in to the joy of thy Lord.
