Mentor’s Leonard Gilbert, Lake County Commissioner John Plecnik and Brian Massie were invited by State Representative Mark Hiner (District 98) to speak to the people in Knox County. Rep. Hiner has introduced a resolution to provide property tax relief to all owner-occupied residences in Ohio.
“House Joint Resolution 7 would eliminate property taxes on owner-occupied residential homes, defined as homes in which the property owner resides as their primary residence. For farmers, this includes the home they live in and the one acre of land where the home sits. Ohio homeowners paid over $10 billion a year in residential property taxes for 2025, after application of state-funded rollback payments and existing state credits for owner-occupied residences.”
The Committee to Abolish Ohio property taxes has been criticized for not providing a line by line detailed solutions on how the $20 – $24 billion in property taxes will be replaced in the state budget. Wayward Senator Jerry Cirino has said on multiple occasions that it is irresponsible to support the amendment without providing a solution for replacement.
It is is interesting to this writer that there is no mention how the $10 Billion will replaced in the State budget with Representative Hiner’s proposed solution. Nor, is there any statement by the state legislators on how they will replace the $10.7 Billion when the income taxes are eliminated.
If state legislators didn’t have double standards, they would have no standards at all!

Lake County, and the State of Ohio, are very fortunate to have such a caring, knowledgeable, tireless worker as John. He has clearly articulated, time and time again, that he supports limited government, and no new taxes. He is Commissioner No (new taxes) in Lake County.
Commissioner Plecnik’s solution to the state property tax issue is very clear and extremely simple:

I would like Senator Jerry Cirino to tell this senior to her face that if she cannot afford her property taxes, she should sell her home and move into an apartment.
