What Do Local Taxes Do?

We welcome Brian Massie of Lobbyists For Citizens (https://myneighborsandme.com/), a group in Lake County that is holding local governments accountable for their taxing and spending actions. They have studied real estate taxation, public school performance vs investment, unfunded pension liabilities, and how citizens can mobilize and not only inform one another but also influence the decision-makers.

Local governments have the most immediate impact on our daily lives, yet are the least understood and most under-reported in this age of nationalized news and social media. To be engaged in our communities means we need to study how and where tax dollars are being gathered and how they are spent.

ADDITIONS to Saturday‘s lineup:

Avon just passed a PERMANENT school tax levy and Avon Lake is following in lock step with levy on ballot this fall. Come learn how this is coming to your Lorain County school district. No more need to vote. Just send money$$.
Who’s on first? Hear about the run-around between the Lorain County Treasurer and Auditor’s office. Quick to assess us but legitimate requests to get money back go down the county memory hole.

Please bring other neighbors and friends who have an interest learning how their local tax dollars are being used.
