Today’s post is a bit of a departure…..it is our opinion, based on our latest research….it is a forewarning message

I remember watching the great Willie Mays (ok, I admit that I am old) on television when he played one of his last baseball games.  Catching a fly ball, or hitting a curve ball became an adventure.   It is not that Willie was not a great player, he just fell into a trap that catches many of us – we hang on to our position too long, and it may jeopardize the memories of the great career that we had.  There is an old axiom that says: “It is better to retire one year too early, than one year too late”.

The same can be said of politicians.  When they are placed on a pedestal, adored by their constituents, rub elbows with influential people, and become synonymous with their community,  they invariably fall into one of the seven deadly sins – Pride – excessive belief in one’s own abilities.  The power of their office becomes a very powerful elixir.  However, I refer to Proverbs 16:18 as a reminder – Pride goes before destruction….

When a politician starts “getting sloppy” with his decisions, bullying his employees, “playing the corners” with the rules, and dictating what happens in his perceived domain, then it is time to “hang up the spikes”.

Remember, we are all playing the back nine of life, we just do not know which hole we are playing.  Sometimes it is better to stop at the ninth hole when you have been shooting under par.  A triple bogey on the 18th hole sours the whole round.
