On July 25, 2024 Matt Hebebrand appeared at the Lake County Commissioners’ meeting to air his views on the conduct of Commissioner Hamercheck. We are calling this Round 1, in a multi-round heavy-weight fight.
Mr. Hebebrand, Assistant Prosecutor for Ashtabula County, Lakeland Community College Board of Trustees, and Lake County Republican Central Committeemen, chose to initiate Round 2 of this heavy-weight fight at the July 30, 2024 Commissioners’ meeting. We found the following interesting information on the Commissioners’ website. It is ironic that Mr. Hebebrand had no problem with Commissioner Hamercheck’s issue when Hamercheck voted to appoint him to Lakeland’s Board of Trustees.
Here are excerpts from the Commissioners’ July 30th meeting that contains Mr. Hebebrand’s statements and questions, and Commissioner Hamercheck’s very pointed response. The Commissioner tells Attorney Hebebrand that as an attorney he is obligated to report a crime to the proper authorities. However, he is also reminded that making a false statement to the police is a crime.
We wonder which path Attorney Hebebrand will choose.
It appears to us that Attorney Hebebrand has chosen sides in the on-going feud between Commission Hamercheck, and his arch-nemesis Commissioner John Plecnik.
Attorney Hebebrand was a former student of Commissioner Plecnik, who also has a job as a law professor at Cleveland State University. There are other local attorneys with ties to Commissioner Plecnik which gives Plecnik a solid base of supporters. They provide each other the opportunity to reach for higher public positions at the appropriate time in their careers. This is how the game is played, and has been played for centuries.
We cannot wait for Round 3!
