Auburn Career Center Gets Defeated at the Supreme Court…AGAIN!

PAY THE TEACHERS WHAT THEY ARE OWED!

Auburn Career Center filed another motion to the Ohio Supreme Court appealing a previous Supreme Court decision against them.

Once again the Board and the Administration of the Auburn Career Center were soundly defeated by another Supreme Court ruling denying their motion for reconsideration of a previous ruling. We have honestly lost track of the number of times they were defeated in court. We think they are 0 – 8!

“Great news! On November 26, 2024, the Ohio Supreme Court denied the Auburn Vocational School District Board of Education’s motion for reconsideration. The Court had previously declined to take the Board’s appeal of the Court of Appeals’ decision in our favor. The Board moved the Supreme Court to reconsider that decision, and today, the Supreme Court denied the Board’s motion. This was the last step in finalizing the judgment in your favor, allowing us to proceed with collecting the judgment.”…Andrew S. Lock…Green Haines Sgambati Co., L.P.A.

In case you may have forgotten, here are the Board members and the Superintendent that continue to waste taxpayers’ property taxes by paying legal fees on a losing cause. The words “nonfeasance”, “misfeasance”, and “malfeasance” keep surfacing when we consider the actions of the Superintendent and this Board.

We are calling on all Board members to resign! For this lawsuit to continue for more than 13 years is an insult to the taxpayers of Lake County forced to support this institution.

Just for the record this institution was established, in our opinion, by the State unconstitutionally. No citizen voted for any of these Board members, they were all appointed. We pay a 1.5 mills of outside millage, not subject to HB 920, and the Board members are not accountable to the taxpayers. Their outside millage levy is treated as inside millage, in violation of the Constitution and ORC that declares the inside millage cannot be any more than 10 mills.

The Riverside School District’s taxpayers make the largest payment in annual property taxes, but we have no representative on the Auburn School Board. We consider this “TAXATION WITHOUT REPRESENTATION”!

We have filed a complaint with the State of Ohio Auditor for Auburn’s wasteful spending, but we doubt it will go anywhere because appealing to the State is usually a waste of time. Their role to protect the average taxpayers is all just an illusion.

If you care to see all the articles we have written about this fiasco, type in “Auburn” in the search box. Here are the two most recent articles.

We believe that the Auburn Career Center should be merged with Lakeland Community College. Auburn continues to expand at the taxpayers’ expense and Lakeland Community College, getting $20 million a year from the taxpayers, is severely underutilized. In their heyday, Lakeland had over 10,000 students, and now they have approximately 4,400 with the projection to maybe have 4,800 by 2027.

We keep hearing about all the Republican “conservatives” in Lake County that want smaller government, and believe that government should be good stewards of the taxpayers’ money. To date, we have NEVER witnessed County government getting smaller, or even any overt action to reduce the size of government.

They shall be judged by their fruits!

Here is a reminder of the two top priorities of government:

ANY TAX THAT CAUSES A CITIZEN TO BECOME HOMELESS IS IMMORAL!
