We would like to thank Mr. Dante Lewis, Director of the Lake County Board of Elections, for responding to our questions about the required maintenance of the Lake County voter rolls. LFC is a big supporter of the Lake County Board of Elections, and we appreciate the entire staff’s tireless efforts to ensure that Lake County has free and fair elections. It is a very difficult task ensuring accuracy tracking levies, candidates, parties, deadlines, and precincts.

Dante J. Lewis, Director
Lake County Board of Elections
We have attached the directive from the Ohio Secretary of State which outlines the process for data collection, notices, and cancellations that all Boards of Elections across Ohio are directed to follow in 2025. It also provides a background on the timeline and previous confirmation notices that we have sent during the past six years.
Ohio Boards of Elections must follow both state and federal election laws, and we carefully follow the Secretary of State’s interpretation of these election laws during this list maintenance process. This directive provides guidance on the steps we must take to ensure that every affected voter has an opportunity to confirm their address before we conduct the cancellation process.
Not every voter who moves out of Ohio proactively sends us a signed notice or responds to previous confirmation mailings stating they have moved. This procedure works to identify those individuals, provides a chance for them to confirm or cancel their registration, and keeps our voter rolls maintained by allowing us to remove a voter record if we do not receive a response from the registrant.
