Smart Meters Coming to Your Neighborhood

Have you heard about “smart meters”?

The Ohio group SW Ohio for Responsible Technology (SWORT) provides an alert about “smart meters”. These meters eliminate the need for the utility companies to physically read your meter so they can send your a bill for your usage of electric, gas and water. Their profits increase and they maintain the ability to curtail your utility usage based on their standards, or demands by their commercial customers.

Update from SWORT: The opt-out fees are not the same throughout Ohio. Some customers are paying more than $30 per month.

From SWORT:

SMART and digital utility meters (electric, gas, and water) have been deployed and mandated in Ohio without adequately informing consumers of the cybersecurity, health, privacy, and other safety risks (fires, explosions, malfunctioning appliances). In some cases, installation is happening without notification or consent.

To mandate these meters is unacceptable! Where there is risk, there must be choice!

TAKE ACTION by visiting:

AND asking your federal and state representatives to introduce and/or support legislation with the following protections:

Utility Meter Choice. In states where smart and digital meters have been deployed, allow consumers to opt out without paying excessive fees.

Protective Privacy Laws. Require utility companies to be transparent about how utility meter data is collected, managed, stored, used and sold.

Mr. John Uher spoke to the Lake County Liberty Coalition, and issued warnings about the health impacts of 5G technology that drives the “smart meters”.

A LCLC supporter wrote a very informative email about her experiences with “smart meters” after listening to Mr. Uher’s speech.

Dear Fellow LCLC Members,

Just when you don’t think it can happen to you, think again!

Over the past several weeks my husband and I have been experiencing headaches and sleeping issues which are both uncommon for us.  After our group meeting last week, my husband and I grabbed a flashlight and went outside to our electric meter.  Much to our surprise there was a smart meter on our house.  We were never informed of this installation.

I contacted the utility company the following day.   The woman that answered the phone was very polite, but not very informed.  I told her that we want the smart meter removed from our home.  She said according to our account we don’t have a smart meter.  I assured her that we do.  She claimed that we had a new meter installed in 2013.

When I explained the impossibility of that fact due to fact that just 2 years ago we took 2 months of reading ourselves off of an analog meter and called them in.  I asked the woman what kind of meter due we have.  She said she has no idea.

My question to her was how do I find out what kind of meter is on the house?  She said I will schedule a work order for someone to come out to find out within the next 2 weeks.  The worker is supposed to call before they come out.

On Friday, I just happen to look out the window and there was a truck from the Illuminating company in the driveway.  There was no contact made to let me know that anyone was coming out.  I went out and greeted the worker a very nice man who’s name I will not mention due to the unsettling information that he shared with me.

Upon inspection he said yes you have a smart meter on your home.  I asked him to remove it, but he said that I have to call in a work order, but that it can be done. I told him that we were never informed about this smart meter being installed on our home.  In fact, it had to be fairly recently because there was a new zip tie setting right on top of the box.

Here’s where it gets interesting.  He then shared with me that they don’t use zip ties.  The meter was installed by a 3rd party company, not just on our home, but many in the Concord area.  We are part of a test group for the upcoming rollout in 2026.  He was unable to tell me how many but it he indicated that it is a significant number.  I asked him about all of the new construction going on in the area and he said that they are installing digital meters.  They will be part of the new rollout schedule.

What an invasion on our property and more importantly our health.  We plan to pursue this beyond just getting the meter replaced.

Sincerely,

Sheila Leksan

We will continue to report on our findings about “smart meters”. We have been told that if you do not want the “smart meters”, you will be charged an extra $30 per month for the privilege of opting out. Once again your cost of owning a home increases because big government wants to control you.

Big government is colluding with utility companies to control the citizens.
