While reviewing the recent Laketran agenda, we noticed the following item to be discussed:
“Motion to approve resolution 2026-022 authorizing the CEO or his designee to enter into a contract with R. L. Bowen for architecture, engineering, and design services for a transit center in Downtown Painesville at a cost not to exceed one million four hundred thirty-one thousand eight hundred thirty-five dollars and 00/100
($1,431,835.00).”
It prompted us to ask Jason Boyd, Lake County Administrator, a series of questions.
Will Laketran will be responsible for tearing down the old county jail. His response:
“We partnered on a Federal grant to demo the jail. So far, we feel good about receiving the grant. If not, the demo cost is the responsibility of the County.”
Will Laketran then build their transit center on the land?
“Correct, plus the county will get additional parking (which is important for county business)“.
Who owns the land?
“Lake County owns the land. A small portion would ultimately be transferred to Laketran upon completion.“
Where will the additional parking needed be located?
“In addition to new public parking at the new jail site, there will be new parking between the rear of the Admin Center and the proposed transit center.“
