Earlier this year, when I was trying to gain some knowledge about the opioid epidemic that was ravaging Lake County, I went to get information from the Lake – Geauga Recovery Center located in Mentor. I was given their standard tri-fold brochure, but no other information. I was a bit surprised by the attitude of their representative, and had the impression that since I was not a potential customer I was dismissed. Upon reading the brochure I noticed that they had Saturday classes that provided more information. When I called asking for information about the class, I was told that the cost will be $125.00, and I had to be sure that ALL monies due for services rendered to me by Lake-Geauga Recovery Centers had been paid in full before I could take the class. Here I naively thought that they were in this for the betterment of mankind, but I got the distinct impression there was a profit motive. Let’s see what we have uncovered.
Of the nineteen agencies under the umbrella of the Lake County ADAMHS Board, Lake-Geauga Recovery Center ranks #4 in taxpayer funds received with a total of $6,057,611 (10.51%) for the FY 2013 – FY 2017.
FY 2013 $1,111,053; FY 2014 $1,250,509; FY 2015 %$1,105,973; FY 2016 $1,167,901; FY 2017 $1,422,175
Here is a summary of their Revenue and Expenses as shown on their annual Form 990 reported to the IRS.
Analysis of Revenue and Expenses 2010_2016
Please note the bottom line Net Revenue Less Expenses…For the FY ended 6/30/15 they reported excess Revenue over Expenses totaling $999,630…..very impressive financial results, but is that what we should expect from a social agency that receives taxpayer funds? …..You decide..
Here is a summary of their balance sheet:
