Re: Request for Financial Information

Dear Mr. Beverage:

We are an group of Lake County residents that are extremely concerned about the fact that our escalating real estate taxes are going to start pricing seniors and others living on fixed incomes out of their homes that they have worked all their lives to achieve.

Working with the Lake County Auditor’s office, we have compared the real estate taxes billed for 2008 versus 2018 for all of the political sub-divisions.  We were shocked at the increase in real estate taxes that Lakeland Community College has enjoyed at the expense of Lake County residents.

Calendar Year 2008   $10,474,423.27
Calendar Year 2018   $20,393,677.45
Increase                        $  9,919,254.18
Increase %                           94.70%

When we learned about details of the College Credit Plus Program, and the fact that Lakeland will be increasing their per credit hour charge to Lake County school districts, we decided that we can no longer be silent.

It would be greatly appreciated if we could have copies of Lakeland’s financial statements for the past five years.

We would also like to know if the rumors we hear about Lakeland being $10 million over budget on the latest building expansion are true and wonder if another tax levy is being contemplated.

For your review, we have enclosed out “letter to the editor” that has been submitted to our local Lake County newspapers.
