Music & Memory …….a $50,000 study from Senior Levy funds

While reviewing the Willoughby-Eastlake Board of Education’s meeting minutes, we noticed a $50,000 receipt from the Lake County Commissioners’ Office, and a subsequent payment to RSVP.  So we went upstream and asked Mr. Jason Boyd, County Administrator, for the details behind the payment.

This is a payment of Senior Levy funds for a  research project started by the Benjamin Rose Institute on Aging.  They are trying to determine if listening to familiar music will help dementia patients.

Here is their public flyer announcing the program:

We received the following progress report prepared by the Institute from Mr. Boyd.    Music & Memory

When we read the report, we could not see any definite conclusion – pro or con.  So we have sent an email to Ms. Silvia Orsulic-Jeras (Principal Investigator), and asked her what did the Lake County taxpayers get for the $50,000 that was spent from the Senior Levy funds.

We will let you know if we hear from the Benjamin Rose Institute on Aging.  If we do not hear within 1 – 2 weeks, we will go back to the Commissioners’ office.
