Manufacturing in Lake County…See RoboBots…the movie

Thanks to one of our Mentor Lobbyists for information about a local group known at AWT – Alliance for Working Together. Here is their website:

They are community leaders working together to promote local manufacturing companies by ensuring rewarding careers for their employees, and educating the younger generations about the skills needed to succeed in the future.

AWT is sponsoring a different kinds of some summer camp fun for kids.  Here is an article by the News-Herald that explains the purpose of the camps.

The camp was at the Auburn Career Center, and has been held there for four years. ACC is an integral part of our community, and we understand that they have been instrumental in the camp’s success.  There are plans for another camp (girls only) in Ashtabula at A-Tech (Ashtabula County Technical Campus) to be held in July for an additional three weeks.

The AWT program starts with 5th and 6th graders at the Summer Manufacturing Institute, then moves to 7th and 8th graders with 3 pound robots, called Junior Bots, and then to high school students learning to program 15 pound battling robots.

To show the public what the program is all about, AWT will be premiering a movie, created by Edge Factor Productions, on July 17th, 5:00 PM at the Mentor Amphitheater. There is no cost to view the movie.
