This is a public service announcement making Lake County residents aware of another growing problem in our community – ELDER ABUSE!
We were told about this problem during our visits to the Lake County Council on Aging. Please read this link that will give the details about elder abuse:

While attending our booth at the recent Mentor City Fest, we had a concerned citizen tell us about a senior friend that she believes was a victim of abuse by a neighbor. We gave the information to Mr. Joseph Tomsick, CEO of the Council on Aging.
He stated that we are fortunate in Lake County to have a dedicated Adult Protective Service Unit, thanks to funding from the Senior Services Levy to the Lake County Department of Job & Family Services.
Mr. Tomsick had one of his staff members forward the information through the proper APS channels, as all such allegations are taken seriously.
APS plays a vital role in addressing the needs of vulnerable seniors by working to prevent, reduce, and remedy conditions causing endangerment while maximizing the senior’s independence and self-determination. The dedicated Lake County APS Unit is greatly helping our community handle the growing senior population. If you suspect that a family member, relative, neighbor or you may be a victim of abuse, neglect or financial exploitation speak up, break the silence and call Adult Protective Services at (440)350-4000. Reports are kept confidential and anonymous reports are accepted.
