Who is Derek Merrin?

Derek Merrin is the state representative for the 47th District of the Ohio House of Representatives. He is a Republican. The district comprises portions of Fulton County and Lucas County.

He caught our attention when we learned that he has been trying to get the ballot language for property taxes simplified so that voters have a better chance of understanding of what is being asked of them.  We sent the following email:

Representative Merrin:

Lobbyists for Citizens is a 501 (c) (4) Non-profit. We are concerned about the ever-increasing property taxes taxing seniors and others on fixed incomes out of their homes. What progress have you made with your initiative to have the ballot language for property taxes simplified?

We will be speaking to our State Representative Callender to see what can be done to have all property taxes “means tested”. We need to declare our seniors a “protected class”, and protect them from this “tsunami” of property taxes..
