P.S.A. – Real ID Law on Hold

(LFC Comments: Thanks to a Kirtland lobbyist for this article on the Real ID Rollout.)

Excerpts from the article:

“Tucked into the $2 trillion stimulus package the U.S. Senate passed Wednesday were instructions for the director of Homeland Security to delay the Real ID rollout at least until Sept. 30, 2021.”

“The Real ID Act of 2005 requires all state identification cards to meet specific vetting standards in order to be used to board a domestic flight or enter some federal facilities, such as nuclear power plants. The law was passed in an effort to make it harder for terrorists to acquire legal ID as they did in the 9/11 attacks.”

“Forms of Real ID include but not limited to:

A Real ID driver’s license or state identification card

A U.S. passport or passport card

A military ID

A permanent resident card”
