One of the books that changed my life when I first read it years and years ago was Atlas Shrugged. It should be required reading for every American kid. The book was written by a woman who had fled communism. And she was writing about what she saw beginning to take shape right here in the United States…slowly, but see that is how it happens…like a frog in a boiling pot. Just about the time the frog realizes what is going on, he’s well on his way to becoming someone’s frog legs dinner.
I pulled out my Atlas Shrugged book yesterday and turned to the John Galt speech. I thought I would share some of John Galt’s speech with our readers. Remember, this book was written by a Russian woman who fled communism, Ayn Rand. Some might discount her words because she was an atheist…I don’t know. I suppose after living in communist Russia all your life you might question the very existence of God. Furthermore, there is no room for God in communism so it is no wonder that she grew up believing what she did. There will be no God other than the government under totalitarianism. There is only one God under communism and that is the state.
Atlas Shrugged was first published in 1957. Today’s date, May 18, 2020. Read the excerpts I have taken from the lengthy John Galt speech and think about these words and what you see happening around you. If you have a soul, they should chill you to the bone.
Backdrop for John Galt’s Speech: Government has taken over the economy, moved it toward heavy regulation and socialism…sound familiar?
“Force is the great evil that has no place in a rational world. One may never force another human to act against his/her judgment. If you deny a man’s right to Reason, you must also deny your right to your own judgment. Yet you have allowed your world to be run by means of force, by men who claim that fear and joy are equal incentives, but that fear and force are more practical.
This country wasn’t built by men who sought handouts. In its brilliant youth, this country showed the rest of the world what greatness was possible to mankind and what happiness is possible on Earth.
Then it began apologizing for its greatness and began giving away its wealth, feeling guilty for having produced more than its neighbors. Twelve years ago, I saw what was wrong with the world and where the battle for Life had to be fought. I saw that the enemy was an inverted morality and that my acceptance of that morality was its only power.
To those of you who retain some remnant of dignity and the will to live your lives for yourselves, you have the chance to make the same choice. Examine your values and understand that you must choose one side or the other. Any compromise between good and evil only hurts the good and helps the evil.
If you’ve understood what I’ve said, stop supporting your destroyers. Don’t accept their philosophy.”
Who is John Galt? We all have the potential to be John Galt. Which side will you choose? Good or Evil? If you fail to decide, you still have made a choice and you will be swept up by the path of least resistance. You won’t like it much either. As for me and mine: Give me Liberty or Give me Death!
