From Wikipedia: Sir John Bell – Bell was born in Edmonton, Alberta, where his parents worked in haematology and pharmacy. He attended Ridley College in St. Catharines, Canada. He graduated from the University of Alberta in 1975, and then studied medicine on a Rhodes Scholarship at the University of Oxford.

He was appointed an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering  in 2009,  and was knighted for services to medicine in the New Year Honours of that year.
