Good News and Bad News About S.B. 260…All R.T.L. Groups Not On The Same Page

We are more than a bit confused about what we are reading in this article. Although we are pleased that SB260 was passed ensuring women’s safety, but perplexed why the Ohio Right to Life group is not, seemingly, in concert with other Right to Life groups in Ohio.

We will contact Ohio Right to Life the the Right to Life Coalition to find out exactly what is going on and report to our readers. Truth and transparency is our mission in dealing with government and Non-Profits. Lies, deceptions and betrayals are never acceptable.

Ohio Right to Life Blocks Prolife Amendment as SB260 Passes Ohio House

Columbus—Late last night, the Ohio House voted 54-30 to pass Senate Bill 260. However, under pressure from Ohio Right to Life, House members simultaneously refused to consider a pro-life amendment to expand protections for women and unborn children.

Senate Bill 260 bans the use of “telemed” (video conferencing, Skype, etc.) for the administration of the first dosage of the chemical abortion regimen. It requires a physician be physically present in the room with the woman for the first part of the procedure.

While we are very pleased with its passage, we are incredibly disappointed that our pro-life provisions were given no consideration.

In the days leading up to the vote on Senate Bill 260, the Right to Life Action Coalition and member organizations advocated for an amendment to increase pro-life protections. Our pro-life amendment would have improved ultrasound requirements prior to abortion, required abortionists inform women of their increased risk of breast cancer and psychological and emotional harm after an abortion, and prohibit public facilities or private institutions of higher education from receiving state money if they perform or induce nontherapeutic abortions or employ or affiliate with a physician who does so.

Regrettably, Ohio Right to Life fiercely lobbied legislators and fellow citizens to block our pro-life amendment from moving forward. Ultimately, our amendment was never even heard on the House floor.

“We are disappointed in Ohio Right to Life’s actions to block our pro-life amendment,” stated Molly Smith, President of both Cleveland Right to Life and the Right to Life Action Coalition of Ohio (RTLACO). “We are further frustrated by those representatives who succumbed to political pressure instead of rising above it to exhaust every legal safeguard for unborn babies and vulnerable women.”

“Families in need do not have time for political games,” commented Linda Theis, President-elect of RTLACO. “In our state, hundreds of babies die every week while women are maimed and injured. It is unacceptable for any pro-life group to block other pro-lifers from adding strong provisions to legislation.”
In the next legislative session, we will persist in our efforts to protect unborn children, women, and families throughout Ohio.

Thank you for actively joining us in this mission.
