Lake Erie Soccer Team Advances to Final Four

Brian Massie, Citizen Journalist and soccer enthusiast

We heard about the Lake Erie College Soccer Team’s outstanding season this year, and wanted to congratulate them on their accomplishments. With the County and our nation in turmoil, we thought that our readers might enjoy something positive.

These young men and their coaches are creating memories that will last a lifetime.

Their record is 12 – 7 – 5 overall (.604) with 8 – 4 -2 (.643) in their conference.

“This is the farthest one of our teams has advanced in the play-offs and I’m told it is the farthest that any team in our division has advanced as well! We will now compete in the final four and all eyes are on us given that we are significantly under-resourced compared to all the other teams we are beating!”

Well done Coach Louie Rolko, and the rest of the Storm.

You are all winners!

Good luck in the final four tournament!

ST. LOUIS – The Lake Erie College Storm men’s soccer team faced off against the #3 seeded Maryville Saints in the Elite Eight round of the 2022 NCAA DII Men’s Soccer tournament on November 19. An early goal would be enough to secure a 1-0 win for the Storm and advance them to the next round!

After playing back-to-back games that ended in penalty kicks, the Storm would face off against another tough opponent in #3-seeded Maryville.

The match would be as tough as advertised with both teams playing extremely tough defense. However, in the 34th minute, Teddy Baker would take a pass from Tom Akinola and put the Storm up 1-0.

This would prove to be all Lake Erie would need and they shut out the Saints for the remainder of the match, and they would go home with the win.

The Storm now advance to the Final Foul in Seattle, Washington where they will face the winner of Franklin Pierce and Charleston (WV) on Thursday, December 1.
