A Tale of Two Counties…a very sad tale

By Brian Massie, A Watchman on the Wall

Thanks to several Lake County lobbyists that sent this News-Herald article to us.

It is great to see Geauga County concerned about the ever-increasing property taxes pricing citizens out of their homes. The mandatory sexennial property revaluation happened Geauga County in 2024 with the taxes to be collected in 2025.

Lake County taxpayers will see their property revaluations in 2024 with the tax collected in 2025. Unfortunately, Lake County taxpayers will not see any possible reduction, or even a temporary decrease, in property taxes because our Prosecutor, Charles Coulson, has decided that a Supreme Court ruling prohibits the Lake County Budget Commission from doing their job of protecting taxpayers from excessive taxation.

We sent a letter to the Ohio Ways and Means Committee asking for their help to resolve this problem.

We will continue to sound the alarm bells, because in 2025 we predict that there will be a lot of unhappy taxpayers in Lake County. When they receive their property tax bill, especially those in the Willoughby-Eastlake, Kirtland, and Perry School Districts, there will be a rude awakening!

No tax should have the power to leave you homeless!

Any tax that, if unpaid, causes a citizen to become homeless is immoral!

Property ownership is a fundamental foundation for liberty!
