Andy Rose, Concord Township Administrator
We asked Mr. Rose about the Township’s road salting policies:
“The smart salting policy utilized by Concord Township is attached. Not sure where the “Concord resident” lives but please keep in mind that this policy is for Township roads and does not apply to roads maintained by Lake County or ODOT.”
The Concord Trustees have signed a new contract with the Lake County Sheriff’s Department adding 4 deputies.
“DRAFT contract along with the Resolution is attached and it is a 3 year contract. Each deputy will cost $158,655/year. The increase for 2025 is $634,620.00. We added 4 deputies as we went from 6 to 10. The 10 deputies (2 on duty 24/7) will begin on 1/1/2025. The County Commissioners will be voting on the contract later today at their meeting.”
LFC editorial opinion:
The Township will realize a tax windfall because of the mandatory sexennial revaluation on property values in 2024 to be collected in 2025. The Township will realize an additional $600,000 per year without a vote of the taxpayers. The estimated cost to the taxpayers will be $32 per $100,000 of their home’s market value.
This is in addition to the 3.9 mill Fire levy passed by the voters in November 2024. It will cost the homeowners $137.00 per $100,000 of home market value.
The Township will also receive an additional $300,000 – $400,000 annually because of the change in distribution of the local government funds.
Concord residents in the Riverside School District will see a significant rise in their property taxes in 2025 due to the sexennial revaluation giving huge increase to the County, Riverside School District (20 mill floor), and to the Township.
The public sector is outgrowing the private sectors ability to pay for the services. This is not sustainable in our opinion.
