Fellow Patriots:

S.B. 1 is now effective in the State of Ohio. It mandates each institution of higher education to adopt and enforce policies that prohibit any orientation or training courses regarding “diversity, equity and inclusion.” As many of you are aware, institutions of higher education across the country have attempted to sidestep laws like S.B. 1 and President Trump’s Anti-D.E.I. executive orders by simply renaming or reframing their D.E.I. programs. To actually eliminate DEI requires effective policies and effective enforcement.

The special committee I spearheaded two years ago is finally getting back together to review Lakeland’s proposals for policies to implement S.B. 1. We will be meeting Tuesday, August 12th at 5:00 p.m. at the Board of Trustees Room at Lakeland Community College, 7700 Clocktower Dr, Kirtland, OH 44094. The full board will subsequently be required to approve the policies at its next regular meeting, Friday August 20, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. The policies must be in place by September to be in compliance with the law.

These two meetings will be your last opportunity to speak about DEI and to make your voice heard regarding how detrimental these initiatives have been to our students and community and that you demand policies that actually eliminate DEI programs and not simply rename or reframe them.

I look forward to seeing you there and addressing the concerns you may have.
