The three Lake County Commissioners recognized June 15, 2023 as Elder Abuse Awareness Day in Lake County. We thank Suzanne Casar, Director of Lake County’s Job and Family Services, for sponsoring a walk in downtown Painesville to bring attention to this important social issue affecting some of the most vulnerable in our society.

Shockingly, it is estimated that 1 in 10 older Americans are victims of elder abuse, neglect, or exploitation. It is estimated that only 1 in 14 cases of elder abuse ever come to the attention of authorities.

We did our small part by taking a video of the citizens participating in the walk through downtown Painesville.

Here is the press release from the Lake County Commissioners:

JFS Director Suzanne Casar informs the public about signs of elder abuse and the hotline telephone number [(440) 350-4000 Press1 24/7] to report any signs of abuse.
