Sanctuary Cities…..to support ICE or not to support ICE

We have been heavily involved in the issue of illegal aliens here in Lake County. (We refuse to use the politically correct phrase “undocumented immigrants”)  It is quite a contentious issue, with rabid supporters on both sides of the issue.  We were shocked, dumbfounded, and amazed when Commissioner John Hamercheck sided with outgoing Commissioner Dan Troy and would not support the resolution introduced by Commissioner Jerry Cirino to support ICE.

Here is an interesting article that discusses both sides of the issue.

The follow paragraph from the article summarizes succinctly the beliefs of the “left of center” citizens.

“Many progressives wish to protect illegal immigrants out of a misguided fixation on multiculturalism. To them, it is more important to import people from different backgrounds than it is to focus on assimilation; it does not matter what values immigrants hold as long as they contribute to racial and cultural diversity. Others on the left see that encouraging illegal immigration offers political benefits and provides electoral advantages to Democratic politicians.”

In our opinion, it stems from the deceptive left wing mantra that “diversity is our strength”.  Without assimilation into a country, just as an open border policy allows, the country, in time, will cease to exist.  If you want proof, just look at what is happening in Europe; it is foreshadowing what will happen in the United States.

We are hoping that the new Lake County administration will do their job and re-introduce the legislation to support ICE and protect the citizens of Lake County.
