You Will Need to Turn Left to Locate the City Club of Cleveland

By Brian Massie, A Watchman on the Wall

Leonard Gilbert and I attended the City Club of Cleveland Tax Forum on Friday, September 20, 2024. We wanted to hear about State and Local tax alternatives from the “experts”.

There were four experts, but only one was a conservative minded thinker. The other three were definitely left-leaning, big government liberals. No mention was made of the role of government, or cutting government spending. However, Greg Lawson, the conservative thinker, did question the appropriateness of the multi-levels of government at the local level.

Several audience participants were able to ask questions, but neither Leonard or I could ask questions, although we asked many times. Leonard even sent it a question before the meeting as they requested. It was obvious that they wanted only members of their “tribe” asking the questions.

We wanted to hear about their thought process on property taxes, so we edited the full video to less that 7 minutes, where our readers can hear about property taxes. The liberals favor a “circuit breaker” to help specific groups negatively impacted by the rising property taxes. Lawson beliefs that approach is merely a band-aid, and rethinking of the local property taxes is required.

The second video is the entire discussion with no editing done by LFC.
