We heard about Ohio Representative Derek Merrin (47th District – Fulton / Lucas County) proposing some changes to the Ballot language for all property taxes.

We contacted Representative Merrin, and asked for some information on what he is proposing. His staff sent the following letter to us:
Rep Derek Merrin 2-12-19 Ballot Uniformity& Transparency Act
He is trying to update antiquated ballot language, and therefore make tax levies and bond issues clearer to the voters.
So we ask: What’s not to like about that? However, remember that public schools have their lobbyists (that taxpayers pay for), and any changes to existing laws simplifying the property tax for the voters is met with strong resistance by the schools. [~70% of all property tax levies and for schools]
