We received the following message from a Summit County Senior. We get many messages such as this from Ohio citizens.
“I am a 75 year old homeowner in Summit County. My property taxes take 27% of my monthly retirement check. This is theft in my opinion. In the last 9 years my property taxes have increased 129% while my retirement check has increased 27%. SB-22 (in committee after 13 months) would at least cap the tax at 5% of income which would be a welcome change and probably keep me a homeowner for the foreseeable future.”
“I am, however, doubtful that anything substantially helping senior homeowners will happen anytime soon. Property tax fairness was the topic of a joint committee last year. It was a repeat of one done in the early 2000’s, which produced nothing of note. I hope this one was not a waste of our time and money as well.”
“Thank you for your efforts.”
